The suns appears slowly from behind the ridge of Tzoumerka at the exact point where they join the mountain range of Aghrafa. The sunbeams that fall on the roofs of the houses paint the horizon a light pink colour, the same colour of the dewdrops on the leaves of the trees.
Maybe, the people who changed the Slavic name of a small village with stone built houses from Nisista to Rodhavghi( pink dawn ), had this picture in their minds.
Rodhavghi is amphitheatrically built on the verdant slope. The mountains Ksirovouni,Tzoumerka,Peristeri and Aghrafa surround it like walls. The river Arachthos flows further below with the artificial lake of Pournari, while further away in the horizon the Amvrakikos bay looks like a still , bright lake.
Water is everywhere in the village:rivers, streams, springs and stone fountains. This is the reason why vegetation is so varied and includes fruit-bearing trees such as apple, cherry, pomegranate and chestnut trees as well as bushes and lots of kinds of rare flowers.
The traditional guesthouse of Marousio is located on the western entrance to the settlement of Rodavgi, below the steep slopes of Ksirovouni, at an attitude of 750 metres.Built with local stone,it is completely integrated to the natural environment .Stone and wood are predominant in the breakfast room, while the big fireplace and the lounge in the southern part create a beautiful spot for every hour of the day. There also many books and magazines about the region of Rodhavghi , and Arta in general with information on the history, customs and traditions of the region.
The rooms are spacious, have all modern comforts and most of them feature a fireplace. The tasteful furniture and decorations set off the character of each room and endow it with an overall sense of class.
However ,the guesthouse’s most important feature is the warm hospitality of its owners,Maria and Vasilis, who , always with a smile on their face ,treat their guests to a glass of homemade liquer from pomegranate or “ krana” , or a traditional “tsipouro”( a traditional Greek spirit) from “zabela”, the rare local black grapes.Almost all the products are produced in the farm or made by the owners.A typical example is the rich greek breakfast that includes homemade cakes, cookies and jams, pie or “ trachana” (traditional soup ),local honey, cheese ,eggs from the farm etc..
Maria and Vasilis Papavasileiou are always at the guests’ disposal to introduce thier native land to them and to suggets the best ideas for walks, excursiosn or activities in the beautiful area of Tzoumerka.
Grandma Marousio ,after whom this beautiful guesthouse was named, would be proud of her grandsons’ work because they passionately try to keep alive the agricultural way to life , the home handicraft but mostly the area’s longstanding tradition of hospitality.
The area: Rodhavghi is beautiful village with many sights as the church of Agia Paraskevi with the wooden woodcut iconostasis, the fortifications of Ancient Athinaeon , the area of Bistoura etc. A walk to the “Besiko “ fountain, which is surrounded by thick vegetation,is worth taking. The fountain took its name from the word of honour ( “besa” ) that the Turks and Greeks of the region gave each other that they would live peacefully.
